Barnet Council is delivering a five-year £50 million investment programme to upgrade the borough’s roads and pavements.
Maintenance of roads and pavements has consistently been named as a top priority for Barnet residents, and the investment reflects the council’s commitment to keep the borough’s roads and pavements in good condition.
Work has already begun on this year’s projects, which will see the council invest £6.8m to upgrade pavements, £5.4m on ensuring the borough’s roads are of good quality and £2.8m on other projects such as repainting road markings and repairing structures, a total investment of £15m. Barnet has one of the capital’s largest networks of roads and pavements with over 5 million square metres of roads and 3.5 million square metres of pavements.
Councillor Dean Cohen, Chairman of Barnet Council’s Environment Committee, said: “We know the standard of our roads and pavements is a top priority for our residents, which is why we are rolling out this investment programme over the next five years. We are a large borough and our roads get a lot of wear and tear from the high volume of traffic travelling along them each day. We want our residents to be able go about their lives safely and easily so we are investing in keeping our roads and pavements in good condition."
