Cameras enforcing weight restrictions on roads will be installed in Barnet for the first time, following a long campaign by residents.
Residents in The Vale, who are tired of dirty, noisy lorries ignoring the five-tonne weekend weight limit on their road, have won the backing of Barnet Council for the pioneering cameras with the help of Childs Hill councillors Shimon Ryde (pictured) and Peter Zinkin.
Their campaign to improve road safety and air quality in the area has already seen a a 20mph zone and a weekend weight limit agreed for The Vale. But the restrictions were too often ignored by lorry drivers.
So after repeated complaints from residents, Cllr Zinkin proposed a CCTV camera for the road be added to a list of additional enforcement sites at a meeting of the council’s Environment Committee.
